Video Of The Day LAUNDROMAT CHICKS

The Viennese young indie-twee-pop four-piece Laundromat Chicks, led by singer-guitarist Tobias Hammermüller, with the support of Lena Pöttinger (drums), Theresa Strohmer (guitar, vocals) and Felix Schnabl (bass), stood out, since their inception in 2020, for a brittle and off-kilter distinctive combination of breezy 60s psychedelia and Velvet Underground’s laidback haze, lazy and crooked guitar rock, or better folk’n’roll, a la Jonathan Richman and the shambling and ramshackle lo-fi aesthetic drawn from The Pastels and Vaselines, all concocted in an absolutely endearing way.

The Austrian band preview their upcoming sophomore album, “Trouble“, slated for release on June 17, 2022, via fellow independent label Siluh Records, with an engaging video, by Sophia Mara Egger-Karlegger & Tobias Hammermüller, for the angsty and longing new track, “You’re on the Line“.

Conversational lyrics depict a night on the phone amid claustrophobic misgivings and obsessive mental wanderings.

Energetic, bittersweet sentiments ignite wandering clusters of shimmering strumming riffs and jangly wistful guitar melodies to weave swaying paths of vibrant nostalgia through low pulsing bass lines, skipping drum beats, and pinpoint synth stabs to accompany heartfelt yet angsty vocal harmonies, haloed in distant echoes of doubt, through a sad discomforting timeline of uncertainty and dread.

The atmospheric visuals, by Sophia Mara Egger-Karlegger & Tobias Hammermüller, capture a nocturnal back-alley music performance to evoke feelings of joy, camaraderie, and individual expression. Upbeat moods under the dim misty lights of an isolated urban setting extract restless reflections and ominous shadows from the fearful alienation and distrust of abandonment issues to unify disconnected consciousness with collective friendship and comfort.

Laundromat Chicks‘ second full-length, “Trouble“, is due out on June 17, 2022, via Siluh Records. The 12″ Vinyl LP edition is already on Pre-Order on the Label’s Website.
