WL//WH Video Of The Day: KURSCHATTEN “Patchouli”

Video Of The Day  KURSCHATTEN

Established in 2017Kurschatten is a German Wave/Post Punk trio from Dortmund, who drop an evocative animated video by von Max Walter for “Patchouli”, the second excerpt from the band’s forthcoming EP “Tropische Jahre”, due out on September 5, 2024 as a co-release by Bakraufarfita Records, Bat-Cave Productions (CD), and Jean-Claude Madame (tape).

“Patchouli” is about getting ill from the toxic world at hand, creating a rush of angsty obsessive ringing guitar strains to cut and shred meandering bass pulses and hypnotic marching beats, whilst restless, desperate spoken words and shouting group back-ups release numb pain into relentless rivers of dread.

A thought-provoking video by von Max Walter shapeshifts symbolic illustrations with the emotional turmoil of the soundtrack. Dark forces overwhelm a struggling soul, every time they leave the house, with merciless attacks of negativity and aggression. This constant harassment leaves a palpable impact on the body, causing physical sickness and depression.
