WL//WH Video Of The Day KIYO
Kiyo is a Leipzig, Germany-based sad Synth Wave artist who draws from Post Punk, Dream Pop, and Psychedelia to create a deeply moving and rich tapestry of analogue synth sound driven by a quest to explore buried feelings.
Her latest end-of-2024 single, “I Was Never Young”, is about a woman who suffers under the heavy burden of carrying a sick loved one’s memories because they differ from her own.
Sonically, an intimate, contemplative and soul-stirring song that releases tight, sonorously humming bass loops alongside hypnotic off-beat drum patterns, swathed by shivering layers of immersive glowing synths, to reverberate wistfully over gently blowing, emotional vocals, radiating deep breaths of haunting sorrow.
In the visuals, you will see Kiyo performing “I Was Never Young” under a night vision red light filter. Everything is blurry, and the motion slows down at times. She places her hand on her heart while rocking back and forth with heartfelt emotion. It syncs wonderfully with the music and evokes a profound sense of sadness and vulnerability that seems like it would be intense to experience live.
