WL//WH Video Of The Day: KATE DE ROSSET “Silver Screen”

Video Of The Day   Kate de Rosset

Kate de Rosset, the classically trained musician, composer, and singer based in North Carolina, previously known through the darker shades of Pat Moon, returns to WL//WH with a DIY lyric video for “Silver Screen”, the first single from her 5th full-length album “It Will Burn”, scheduled for release this Fall 2024 via the art collective and audio-visual label founded by Gloria de Oliviera, La Double Vie

“Silver Screen” is, in part, inspired by the idea that in death we watch back on our lives as if it were a movie. Posing the question, “what do you wanna see?”

An immersion into a mystical introspection of mesmerizing grace, “Silver Screen” unfurls calm and reflective, almost wistful, lulled by the gentle steady cadence of ticking rhythm patterns laced with soft twinkly glowing key resonances and enveloping flows of poignant and whimsical synth melodies, under fragile penetrating angelic cries. The track patiently builds down to the 2:50 mark, when subtly rippling beats pick up the anticipation, and sentient airs begin to rise and blend with harmonic layers of immersive celestial swathes and ghostly humming baritone haloes, climaxing into an uplifting spiritual rhapsody.

The DIY visuals place dainty script over significant ancestral milestones to capture the sentimental daydream quality of the soundtrack. Inspired by an old home movie, images of a romantic family wedding with stylish retro fashions play out like a fairy tale with glimpses of a high school graduation and a childhood ballet recital shuffled into the mix. To remind us that this vision is being seen upon death, a vintage film reel rotates quickly and emotional glistening seas reflect blurry blinding lights. Finally, a dim backyard with two little girls and a puppy dog fades into black, stirring the soul with heartwarming tears of thought-provoking nostalgia.
