WL//WH Video Of The Day: I CAN FLY “Periferia” (Official Video)

Video Of The Day  I CAN FLY

Active on the scene for over 9 years, I Can Fly, the Post-Punk revival unit based in Mexico City, returns to WL//WH with the Official Video, for the fresh and sparkling “Periferia”,  the first single, produced in collaboration with Sebastián Garrido, taken from the band’s eagerly upcoming anticipated first album, scheduled for release sometime in 2024.

“Periferia” is the reflection of what it means to live in the metropolitan area of Mexico City, the routine of the people who live in Ecatepec, and surrounding states. It talks about having to travel great distances to fulfil what we have been told is success: starting the day, getting around, getting to work, living with stress, returning home and reuniting with the family for a short time, and then repeating the process.

Slight bursts of busy background noise intersperse a beautifully organic emotional outpouring of peppy drum beats, ceaselessly crisp resonant throbbing bass lines, and obsessively meandering, glistening wistful guitar melodies to carry aching, heartfelt deep vocals, swaying between numb repetition and impassioned cries, into a tightly-knit urgent surge of vibrant piercing agony.

It’s always nice to see other parts of the world as it gives us a chance to see how similar our basic struggles and concerns are but with a unique colour of culture. Slice-of-life imagery filmed in the municipality of Ecatepec in Mexico City creates a soul-stirring visual companion for the nonsensical work conflict angst of the soundtrack.

Keep up with I CAN FLY:
