WL//WH Video Of The Day: HIGH CONTROL GROUP “Let The Light” (Official Music Video)

WL//WH Video Of The Day  HIGH CONTROL GROUP

At the turn of the year, we greatly liked the jangly and synthy single, “Time,” by Melbourne-based Post Punk outfit GLAS NOST, which, stacked amidst the festive period and the usual playlists, unfortunately, we didn’t find the time for a post.

No less intriguing is High Control Group, the side project by GLAS NOST‘s drummer Will, here also as vocalist and keyboard player, featuring members of Hideous Sun Demon, BOAT SHOW, Terrible Signal, GUM & more, that delves into “melodic Post-punk from decades past, taking cues from bands like The Chameleons, New Order, Interpol & The Sound.”

The Australian band has just dropped a retro-style DIY Official Music Video for High Control Group’s urgent 80s Wave-tinged fourth single, “Let The Light, via fellow Melbourne label Cruel City Records.

“Let The Light”, as in shine on you, builds into a bursting crescendo by driving serpentine bass throbs alongside fast-paced stuttering rhythms, thudding along under a frenzy of searing guitars and dramatic keys, to encircle softly, spoken but urgent vocals, with noisy swarms of chaotic distortion.

The Official DIY Music Video layers parallel timelines with shifting flows of motion to create a disorienting, almost disassociative effect around High Control Group as they perform “Let The Light.” Symbolic animations by Will and thought-provoking editing by Vin blend suggestive imagery with beautiful sun-drenched seashores to sync seamlessly with the theme and momentum of the soundtrack.
