WL//WH Video Of The Day: HEY CALAMITY “Missing Planets”

Video Of The Day  HEY CALAMITY

Hey Calamity, the home-recording Indie / Dream Pop / Shoegaze brainchild of  South Australia-based songwriter and multi‑instrumentalist David Thomas, returns to WL//WH with a thought-provoking animated video for the atmospheric soul-stirring ballad “Missing Planets”, a song written in 2009 during a different point in his life.

An introspection on loneliness, heartache, and fear weaves layers of sharp, sparkling guitars that reverberate poignantly through a swaying undertow of moody bass pulses and mid-tempo drum beats, to underlie emotional, melancholic vocals, longing for connection, with a lush, vibrant multi-textural tapestry of comfort and support.

A stirring and strikingly lifelike animation of David Thomas shows him sitting under a colorful, claymation-like nighttime sky with a tear falling from his eye. Scenes of outer space where rockets fly, astronauts explore, and planets emote symbolize the dreams, adventures, and risks to be had during life’s journey. Unfortunately, the deep sorrow holds him back from earth-ground group celebrations and exploring the great unknown.
