WL//WH Video Of The Day: HATIF “Long Year”

 Video Of The Day   HATIF

Stockholm, Sweden-based Dark Electronic duo Markus Majdalani & Johan Eckerström, a.k.a. Hatif return to WL//WH with the video clip for “Long Year”, Hatif’s most murky and bristly single so far, the follow-up to the band’s 2022 debut album “Everything is Repetition,” via Town and Towers Records.

Thought-provoking lyrics reveal the emotional and physical toll placed upon global citizens, whilst nations are at war, diseases run rampant, and natural resources are scarce and or demonized.

Relentless, stirring industrial-tinged momentums ignite steady crashing beats, buzzing, chugging low ends, dim flickering mechanical oscillations and warm sinister serpentine synth glows, to surround strong, atmospheric vocals, alternating an urgent distressed chant with aching sentimental croons, to evoke melancholy, pain, and suffering at the hands of constant uncertainty and impending doom.

Dramatic red and blue, alternate dimensional visuals by Daniel Kwon and Sara Arnald, shot on location in a basement south of Stockholm, capture a dark and edgy rehearsal to deliver a “live show feel” for the viewer. Strobing lights, shapeshifting shadows, and sudden flows of flash-forward motion transform the underground set into a hypnotic magic venue vibe to sync seamlessly with the high-energy dystopic nature of the soundtrack.

Keep up with Hatif:
