Video Of The Day Grundeis
Once again we repeat ourselves, time flies, as already three years have passed since the German Shoegaze / Post-Punk band Grundeis first appeared on WL//WH with two video singles from their debut LP “Amygdala.”
The Hamburg-based quartet, comprised of the magnetic vocalist Laura Müller (lyrics, vocals, guitar), don’t forget to check the recently dropped second full-length under her ethereal dark wave solo alias Undinyx, guitarist Nils Pfannenschmidt, bassist Tobias Rutkowski (bass), and new drummer Andreas Mann, are unhurriedly unveiling their sophomore studio album, “Every Second an Ocean”, due out on December 12, 2024, via UNDRESSED Records.
Blending sharp-edged and moody Post Punk leanings with rich shimmering, noisy Shoegaze textures, the group has shown a knack for moulding a gripping and hypnotic guitar-driven sound with an ever-evolving, unpredictable and bold approach, deftly by the second single “Strange”, and its related DIY video clip.
A song about letting go of illusion and ego in order to conquer fear, “Strange” is a cathartic and uplifting listening experience, cloaked in a mesmerizing sparkling tone sculpted by incandescent deeply emotional guitar melodies, as they hover and shiver wistfully above a vibrant undertone of stumbling drum beats and humming bass pulses, slowly swaying above and below, brimming with agonising resonance, relaxed heartfelt vocals, embracing life with newfound freedom.
The accompanying visuals place a pretty organic summer day, starring Laura Müller and Nils Pfannenschmidt, under a distorted flickering veil created by editor Fränk of UNDRESSED Records to evoke the sentiments of the soundtrack. The glaze and free-flowing flower attire bring an Ethereal 1960s hippie vibe to the duo, who intimately dance and play guitars in the natural magic of a golden countryside setting.
