WL//WH Video Of The Day GOLDEN APES
Active since 1998, Golden Apes, the longstanding Berlin-based four piece Post Punk unit made of Peer Lebrecht (music, words, vocals, synths), Christian Lebrecht (bass), Gerrit Haasler (guitars), Maximilian Hennig (guitars), and Salomon Bosse (drums), have dropped a video for the new single “The Highest Point”, while playing live gigs this incoming Saturday evening at Berlin‘s Dark Spring Festival and next April 26th at Italy‘s Ghosts In The Trees Festival.
From the highest peak to the deepest vale…”
These words not only open “The Highest Point,” the latest single from Berlin’s Golden Apes, but also encapsulate the song’s sweeping emotional and sonic journey. From its panoramic, ethereal introduction to the raw, guitar-driven intensity of the verses – before returning to moments of quiet reflection – the track masterfully navigates every corner of the band’s musical landscape. Hovering synthesizers, sharp-edged guitars, and dynamic rhythms intertwine with rich, atmospheric textures, creating a hauntingly beautiful fusion of melody and melancholy.
A tranquil and contemplative ambiance imbued by a vibrant interlace of poignant rippling and glistening guitars, gentle immersive synth glows, shuffling sonorous drum beats and humming bass throbs, temperamentally shifts back and forth with urgent trotting ecstatic flows, pricked by obsessive straining chords, while deep baritone vocals of plain yet heartfelt intensity sing about life’s highs and lows through a lens of family support, to end comfortingly with “I’ll be always by your side.”
Black and white visuals, from the city to the countryside, filmed at various January hatcheries all over Berlin and Brandenburg locations, show the band in solemn forms of introspective longing to sync with the inspirational lyrics of the soundtrack. The scenes are thoughtfully set up and coordinated to pull the viewer into a sacred space of communion where the idea that you are never alone springs forth.
