Video Of The Day FOTOKILLER
Fotokiller, the Berlin, Germany-based Dark-leaning Punk Rock unit of Sofy (guitar, vocals), Damon (bass), and Matze (drums), return to WL//WH with a video directed by Sol Astolfi for “Stop the World”, the second track on the debut LP “Eerie Nostalgia.” The album was originally released in a small number of limited cassettes on Order 05 Records in 2024 and is now being re-pressed in a 12″ Vinyl edition via Chemnitz-based independent label/mailorder It’s Eleven Records.
Expect heartfelt exuberance and vibrant melancholy, with classic elements from moody late 70s/80s Post-punk and Punk, taking cues from early Joy Division, Killing Joke, The Wipers, Mission of Burma, T.S.O.L. to name a few.
Lyrically, as the world falls apart around them, two intimate souls share a silent moment of looking into each other’s eyes while they pretend everything is all right.
“Stop The World” is a turbulent and emotional heady swirl of loosely chugging and ringing guitar riffs, buzzing obsessively through the vibrant underpinning of snaking throbbing bass lines and brisk drum beats, while heartfelt vocals swing between dreamy melancholy and an intense distressed chorus, trying to escape the chaos of a frightening surrounding.
The cinematic visuals directed by Sol Astolfi use the rich glow from red and white lights to cast dramatic shadows around Fotokiller as they perform “Stop The World.” Stylish costumes by Sophie Langlotz make a bold statement against surreal smoke machine clouds and the edgy dance moves of Lumi Lausas and Belen Asad to create an aura like an exclusive nightclub fantasy. Shuffled within, there are beautiful ethereal visions where Sofy is bathed in a spotlight while white rose petals fall from the sky.
