WL//WH Video Of The Day Eye Steal
Eye Steal is Remi Monroe and Dani Blood, a Toronto-based ‘Grunge Goth’ duo with a full-length album, “Burning Out,” in 2017 and a couple of EPs under their belt, who, after a two-year hiatus, dropped the Official Video for the one-off single βMy Eyes Are Animalβ, not to be included in the sophomore LP, “Drown My Friend,” due out in the next year.
βMy Eyes Are Animalβ begins and ends with an ominous distorted stroboscopic ambience of relentless icy bright synth melodies, edgy metronomic clicks, sparse off-tempo beats, and buzzing bass drones, enrapturing tormented aching vocals before they become clear in the middle, interlocked with an extended interlude of light buzzing mists, eerie, melancholic glows, and slow punchy and ticking percussions that frame the emotional tragedy with an open, softer space to feel.
The Official Video blends symbolic high-def imagery with Eye Steal rocking out under a transformative strobe light to sync with the shadowy introspection of the soundtrack. Evocative and vibrant, time-lapse clips of flowers dying, a snake shedding its old skin, and a myriad of other natural elements bring forth feelings of fear and death at the hands of change.
