Video Of The Day ELZ AND THE CULT
Istanbul‘s Electro-Goth trio, Elz and the Cult hold a special place in my heart, as the first band I interviewed and for being an amazingly deep, kind, and open person to speak with.
A video release for “Ultraviolence”, the second single off the upcoming album, “Bloodline”, via Cold Transmission Music, keeps pushing the boundaries with relevant social topics, beautifully androgynous personas, and bleeding psychological perspectives, combined with sparkling dark pop, cloaked in deep impassioned sensual darkness, which have become synonymous with the moniker, “Elz and the Cult.”
Industrial repetitive glitch cranks along with deep ominously rumbling bassline, scattered in hypnotic skipping syncopated beats, around fragile pained male vocals shift in emotional intensity, with caustic exaggerated female cries left alone in the twinkling mechanical synth interlude before culminating in a claustrophobic layer of menace and disillusionment.
Soul-stirring lyrics dig into the collective unconscious of humankind warning of apocalyptic doom
“Red Moon is rising All the violence in the world It has become concrete In the point of no return.”
Wickedly intense video contrasts black and white photography using high exposure lighting on pale skin set against a dark glossy lip to smear the lines of definition into deformed, contorted, and demented blurs swept in “Ultraviolence.” Costume and make-up instil a sense of dangerous allure, as a severe brow line serves to enhance mental imbalance with social mainstream while awkward body poses, dismembered by black elbow gloves, time-lapse into inhuman forms painting a disturbing portrait of the modern human condition.
ELZ and the CULT‘s upcoming new album, “Bloodline”, is due out May 22 on Cold Transmission Music (CD), Young & Cold Records (Vinyl 12″) and DOMUZ RECORDS (ltd. Tape).
In the meantime enjoy the brand new “ULTRAVIOLENCE REMIXES” EP
