Video Of The Day DUSK2DAWN
Dusk2dawn is the transcendental ‘ethereal wave’ music craft of kindred spirits Finn Parker (Eternal Dust) on synths and Jack Mannix (Circle Pit) on vocals/lyrics, hailing from Kings Cross, Sydney who dropped a video for their second home-recording demo “soul2keep“, a song from the duo’s debut album, coming soon on Mannix’s run label DERO Arcade.
Fraught with the internal battle between good and evil, seemingly a recurrent theme of the lyrics, that causes a person to lose control, “soul2keep” is a somber, brooding, wraithlike, witch house-tinged, synth-heavy affair to entrance the listener into uncanny and arcane aural realms of the imagination, heavenly and disturbing at the same time.
Amid a muted floor of taut, scattered drum kicks, punctuated by distant, ritual metronomic crashing snares, a mercurial wheel of ceremonial glowing synth washes rise and fall between sinister and ethereal droney resonances around vulnerable, downtrodden vocals, releasing melancholy and pain, whilst slipping into the harsh chipping melodies at the point of no return.
The symbolic visuals for “soul2keep” use footage of skyscrapers being demolished to sync with the spiral of self-destruction described in the soundtrack. Sad lyrics read like a dark lullaby, as thick grey menacing clouds slowly spread across an urban terrain to bring forth a hopeless feeling of apocalyptic doom.
