WL//WH Video of the Day: DRAB MAJESTY “Ellipsis”

Video Of The Day Drab Majesty

On April 16, the independent label Dais Records announced the brand new 3rd studio album Modern Mirror” LP by Drab Majesty, slated for release on July 12, and it comes digitally, on CD, and on vinyl too. Los Angeles‘ outfit Drab Majesty returns with their most ambitious album after escaping to the inspirational landscapes of Athens, Greece wherefrom they channelled the songs of their new album. There were two glorious live performances in Athens (May 2017-Death Disco club, January 2018-Temple Athens club) that were embraced by the dedicated darkwave audience of the city, two live gigs which both ended up in a feast. Thank you for the experience Drab Majesty, you rock!

Within the 8 brand new songs of the new album, they are blowing the dust off the antiquarian myth of the Roman poet Ovid’s “Narcissus” poem which is inspired by the ancient Greek mythology. Deb Demure and collaborator Mona D uses its premise as groundwork for a modern reinterpretation as each song tells a piece of the story, in which the listener’s own self-identity has become warped and dissociated through rapidly expanding technology, losing touch with the origins of their own personalities and setting the stage as a romantic saga of antiquity.

The official video of the leading single “Ellipsis” was also published on April 16, and it is another amazing specimen of the band’s trademark sound and style. A post-punk bullet which they blended with cold wave sonic elements and a wonderful new wave orchestration all over, with Demure’s irresistible voice and his romantic vocals working as a call to the dancefloor for a redeeming dance. The song is utterly melodic and so groovy with lyrics (especially on the refrain) that shall ignite dances and fantasies and choreographic “declarations” on the dancefloors of the dedicated clubs. And I can’t wait for the whole album to surface on July 16, Ellipsis” is already on repeat!
