Video Of The Day DISKOTEKET
Formed in 2002, the Uppsala, Sweden-based veteran New Wave / Post-punk five-piece unit Diskoteket, fronted by Anna-Karin Andersson, returns after a long hiatus since the debut album “Lust och tomhet” at the end of 2019, with a video by Madelene Mhanna for the new single “Avlägset ljud och ljus / Distant Sound and Light.”
Somehow reminiscent of the compelling, never forgotten, mantra-like uncanny incantations of JayneCasey/Pink Industry, the immersive, uplifting, and spiritual song rolls on hopping layers of slapping and clattery crisp rhythmic pads, with chiming echoes of glassy guitar sheets, and ominous droning synth swells, to coalesce as a misty prismatic aura around powerful female vocals, rising into long drawn out streams of longing, before high icy cries emerge to bring forth a sense of transformation.
“Avlägset ljud och ljus” single artwork
In the video by Madelene Mhanna for “Avlägset ljud och ljus,” Anna-Karin Andersson sings and dances under the majesty of sunset sky overlays. The beautiful warm colors bleed through puffy white clouds while her wardrobe, which includes a flower headdress, casts shapeshifting shadows behind an array of kaleidoscopic formations. This imaginative combination of techniques channels the ancient mandalas that are used for meditation and guidance.
