Dead Hummingbird, formerly Ghost of a Dead Hummingbird, are a four-piece from Chicago who play a powerful and immersive gloomy post punk with new wave and psychedelic edges.
In “It won’t be me” sinister icey droning keys notes underlie the doomy, shadowy, hypnotic soundscape charged by tight yet fluid drumming and spacey, distorted, reverb-drenched groovy guitars. The dark, haunted vocals blend with the hazy yet dense lysergic guitar tone, equally bleak and atmospheric as it is raw and powerful, expressing disappointed, detached anger, and sadness at the betrayal causing the end of his love.
An intriguing and compelling preview from the band’s forthcoming new album.
