WL//WH Video Of The Day: DATAISMO “Ritmo Solar”

Video Of The Day    DATAISMO

WL//WH welcomes Dataísmo, the Mexican Dark Wave duo of Daniel Arp and Pattsy Thunders, to the blog with a video directed by Lalo Landeros for the opening and leading track “Ritmo Solar”, taken from last May’s sophomore 5-song EP “Aural.”

Through an organic instrumentation of reverb-laden sparkling guitars and prominent gloomy basslines, charged by driving drum machines and electronic undertones, to provide further layers of atmosphere and texture, the band over a couple of hard-working years has drawn up both dark and cold ‘Rock’n’Roll’ / Post-Punk sound, rife with a decadent and romantic spleen, shadow and light ambiance, and esoteric introspective lyrics, to incorporate the best gripping bits from the 80s.

The mysterious “Ritmo Solar” sets off hypnotic punchy rhythms, humming brooding basslines and penetrating echoing guitar strains, to instill lingering distorted glimmers of melancholy, around emotional whispery vocals, layer with haunting backup cries, to evoke the sensation of being inside a deep echoing well of longing.

The accompanying visuals directed by Lalo Landeros in Geometrica, Mexico City, March 2024, perfectly capture the brooding yet lively energy of Dataísmo as they perform “Ritmo Solar” against a thought-provoking studio backdrop. Cool black Ray ban sunglasses cover the eyes of the Dark Wave duo, but you can still see a fiery intensity flowing through their fingertips as they play the bass and guitar. The vibe is retro-futuristic, elicited by surreal Psychedelic illustrations framed in neon lights, blue checkerboard curtains, and an array of clocks. There is also a crouching black panther sculpture to represent their Mexican heritage.
