Convex Model, the Thessaloniki-based analog synth project of veteran Greek synthesist and singer Nick K. Maldoror (a.k.a. Nick Kapantzakis, member of Human Puppets, Plexiglas & Dislocation Genders) surrounded by a full band made of Eleni Tzouna (Synths,) George Papadopoulos (Bass,) Kyriakos Tsakalidis (Drums,) and Stavi Tsiara (Lyrics) has dropped a psychological music video, directed by Dimitris Vrakas (@d.vrakas), starring Niki Gata (@d.vrakas)) and Ioanna Lampridou (@niki_gata), for the wistful retro-tinged track “Sightless Open Door”, taken from last year’s sophomore album “Quantity Of Motion” through Hertz-Schrittmacher (Kernkrach).
A hazy nostalgic whirlwind of airy glaring synth melodies, vibrant drum beats, and cool mellow bass lines sew melancholic moods around sad, detached male vocals’ regretful release of isolated pain and overwhelming fear from denial, whilst icy bright keyboard chimes emit glimmers of hope into the buzzing reverb strewn mists of despair.
Reflective auras cast doubt and deception over beautiful blossoms waiting to bloom in a video depiction of a tumultuous journey of self-discovery. A quest for freedom opens past and future doorways once blocked by haunted shadows, drawing memories onto a decaying mannequin, to create a confrontation with one’s ego. Shards of dread propel spinning psychedelic dimensions through windblown fields of shame, melting magic mushrooms with red and blue brush strokes to bury the past and ignite a rebirth.
