WL//WH Video Of The Day: COLD CONTRAST “Dependency” (Official Video)

Video Of The Day  COLD CONTRAST

A little over a year after their debut single “Misdeed”, Cold Contrast the Hungarian Goth / Dark Wave four piece from Budapest/Gyöngyös, made of Melinda Ladar (vocals), Márk Baranyai (bass guitar), Marcell Nemesházy (synthesizers and production) and Miklós Pribéli “Makó” (guitar), return to WL//WH with the Official Video, directed by the newcomer Peter Dajka, for the new track “Dependency”, building anticipation for the forthcoming September 21st appearance at Orszagos Gothic Talalkozo Fest.

Freedom = Independence? The two do not always go hand in hand, and if one is imprisoned by any addiction, they can easily contemplate the happy (seemingly) life of others… Even if we are not captive ourselves, unfortunately in our environment we can sometimes witness what it is like when someone else is.

Further evidence of the quartet’s increasingly refined and reinvigorated take on the classic Darkwave sound, “Dependency” weaves crashing drum patterns, sonorously throbbing broody basslines, and melancholic synth glows, pierced by somberly spellbinding guitar melodies, dripping with pain over aching emotional vocals, that fall hopelessly into shivering swirls of lost passion.

Symbolic black and white visuals by Peter Dajka blend slow-motion clips of the edgy black-clad foursome with elemental imagery to sync with the psychological aspects of the soundtrack. Like darkness that hides inside the mind, a person sits in a chair beside an old furnace, casting shapeshifting shadows onto the wall. An array of editing techniques and creative choreography create a horror story effect, symbolizing an inner turmoil lurking within the mind’s endless hallways.
