WL//WH Video of the Day: COLD CAUSE “Road”

Video of the Day  Cold Cause

Born in 2024 from the artistic intersection of Luiça on vocals, Bruno on synths and machines, and Mathieu on guitar, Paris-based French-German trio Cold Cause reflects their diverse yet akin musical sensibilities in an electronic-charged, multifaceted dark sound, rooted in moody Darkwave and piercing Post-punk aesthetics, without ever disdaining strong dance-floor leanings.

Cold Cause show their most emotionally introspective side in “Road”, the second single, paired with a DIY video, taken from the forthcoming eponymous debut album “Cold Cause”, due out on March 21st via Manic Depression Records.

About when a person becomes stranded on the road at night after running out of fuel, fear and paranoia take hold,

“Road” is drowned in an immersive mix of melancholy and shadowy darkwave patterns, driven by a taut, steady drum programming and gurgling low ends, layered with glowing, melancholic synths alongside obsessively thorny, ringing guitar lines, to alarmingly hover over haunted, stern, urgent female spoken words, explaining the spinning sensation going on inside her head.

In the paired visuals, Lara Luiça drives a car under a transformative stream of lights and shadows. The middle highway line in motion creates a hypnotic repetitive flow beneath an array of just out-of-focus, colored, blinking lampposts. Anticipation builds to a climax when a woman, wearing a modest skirt, runs vulnerably down the street. The nightmare ends inside the automobile, where red and blue auras seamlessly bring forth the subconscious dread of the soundtrack.

Cold Cause‘s self-titled debut album will be released in 12″ black vinyl with insert, and 3 panels Digipack CD on March 21 via Manic Depression Records.

The release home party will take place at ParisLa Mécanique Ondulatoire on the same day.

The band’s third single,” Dead Diamond Machine”, will be released on April 10, in conjunction with a series of concerts across Europe.

Keep up with COLD CAUSE:
