Formed in late 2014, Cloud Tangle, the solo project of Brisbane, Australia-based multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Amber Ramsay, unveils inedited intimate and delicate acoustic Folk scents and improvised tape piano loop hues in the first excerpt, “Desire Path”, from the upcoming fourth studio album via local independent label 4000 Records.

Curated through bedroom production and expansive instrumentation, the project forms its own unique sound that falls into a dark dream-pop genre with elements of lo-fi and orchestral instrumentation. Ethereal vocals soar above intricate melodies and lush synthesizers, drawing you into a floating, atmospheric state. The sonic elements gather with complex texture, while lyrical content stems from concepts of philosophy, human emotions and experiences.

A wonderfully immersive, calming, comforting, magical tune, six minutes of profound unhurried contemplation, blends gently twinkling wind chime loops with delicate introspective guitar strings and shivering glassy glows under beautiful soul-stirring female vocals, layered with loose, radiating celestial breaths, to relax the body, clear the mind, and rouse the spirit.

“Desire Path” is themed around the constant movement of nature and how things always find their path. I wrote this song at the time of moving from the city to the countryside, in a time of awe and lightness. It’s a love song and a question to the world.

In the DIY visuals, a deeply evocative and masterful crafting of Nature’s light and shadow, reflection and saturation, destruction and intelligent design brings forth a cosmic sense of helplessness, surrender, humbleness and awe, syncing seamlessly with the devotional soundtrack. A careful consideration and construction of the elements, air, water, sun, and land, invites one to wonder about what our place in the divine mystery might be and who, or what, is the invisible force working behind the scenes since the beginning of time.
