WL//WH Video Of The Day: CLOSED MOUTH “Drowning In Silence”

Video Of The Day Closed Mouth

Another band we have been following fondly since its instrumental and multi-moniker early inception on Soundcloud is Closed Mouth, the longstanding solo project of the elusive French independent musician, composer and singer, Yannick Rault, keeps exploring desolate and haunting atmospheric sonic realms that seamlessly encompass the austere grey shadows and the melancholic introspective energy from the heyday of French Coldwave, and British Post-punk with dashes of 90s Shoegaze.

“Drowning in Silence”, and its accompanying Video Clip, is one of the several compelling singles dropped recently, to announce the forthcoming 10-track studio album, “After The Tears The Fury”, due out on April 4, 2025, via Icy Cold Records.

About a lost soul suffering in fear, the song impels steady punchy drum beats and sonorously throbbing humming bass lines to obsessively ruminate under enveloping spectral synth drifts and relentless, distorted, agonizing ringing guitar strains, to drown haunted gloomy vocals in disconnected silence.

To sync with the psychology of the soundtrack, the accompanied visuals cast inverse lighting over a tree-lined street while symbolic cut scenes show a hand struggling to grab onto a flower entwined rope. By the end, the vision starts to swirl and fragment whilst becoming so cloudy that it is impossible to see what is going on, helping the viewer understand what it is like to feel hopeless and confused.

Closed Mouth‘s upcoming studio album, “After The Tears The Fury”, is slated for release, in CD/ Vinyl 12″ & Digital formats, on April 4, 2025 via Icy Cold Records. Already on pre-order on Bandcamp.

Don’t forget as well Closed Mouth‘s instrumental version of “After The Tears The Fury” album in a special Vinyl edition, due out on April 25, 2025, exclusively via Unknown Pleasures Records.
