Cigarette in Your Bed is a Japanese 3-piece Noise Shoegaze, self-dubbed Heelgaze, band from Tokyo made up of Kazuya Saijo (guitar, vocals), Chihirö (Bass, Noise), and Joseph (Drums) who drop a video for the latest single “Insane Supermarket” to give us a glimpse of their sophomore LP “Lost In”, due out December 1, 2023 with a pre-release live show at Koenji-HIGH in Tokyo.
The nostalgic, liminal, and equally slightly psychedelic and claustrophobic, “Insane Supermarket” combines stumbling crawling drum beats, and grumbling bass lines, with sad weeping strains, and smoldering swelling layers of grungy, noisy reverb-drenched distortion, whilst angsty yet dreamy vocals and high back-up swathes long and fret under the crumbling, the distorted forefront of obsessive views.
Symbolic visuals fuse a surreal walk through an enchanted forest, with impromptu performance configurations and translucent backstory overlays to sway with the moody momentums of the soundtrack. An impressive array of guitar petals, amps, and the band’s edgy unusual black-clad fashions build thought-provoking sequences to elicit the anxious, detached emotionality of the overwhelmed shopper-inspired lyrics.
