Video Of The Day CEMGİL & NAFAS
CEMGİL, the Viennese experimental Disco/Synth solo project of Turkish-born multifaceted artist, engineer, musician and frontman of the duo Zack Zack Zack, Cemgil Demirtaş, teams up with fellow Vienna-based composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, in this specific case, Saz guitar player, NAFAS, in the stirring spiritual song, “BANA BENDEN SEN YARATTIN (Do Kesik),” paired with a DIY Official Music Video, just in time for the anticipation of Spring.
Both artists explore and weave Middle Eastern traditional sound suggestions with modern beat-driven electronica, leaning toward darker tones, the former, world music, the latter. The visuals feature the musician and composer Can Erkurt (Panasea band), who also co-authored the lyrics.
BANA BENDEN SEN YARATTIN (Do Kesik) talks about the importance of speaking and observing the truth through a lens of falling away into the darkness, yet finding a way back by connecting with the sacred spirit, wisdom, and faith.
Bouncy, steady drum patterns join with droning bass lines, to hypnotically pulse underneath strong, straight-forward baritone spoken words, giving testimony and offering reassurance amidst the fascinating organic mesmerism of deftly woven vibrant, sparkling and slicing saz melodies, building anticipation with dazzling electronic strains, as distorted echoes from strings and voice expand auditory perception toward a steadfast, metaphysical flow of soul-stirring, magnetic, and grounding flavors.
The DIY Official Music Video, shot at Neusiedler See in Vienna, begins and ends with a trek across an icy, snow-covered terrain where the land and sky converge into a monochromatic horizon. Then, Can Erkurt sets dried roses afire in front of St. Brigid’s signature hand-woven cross whilst CEMGİL and NAFAS perform, wearing ceremonial robes. Day turns to night, causing vision to change, and the wet of the ground’s snow extinguishes the burnt offering. Many symbols, such as a rug, a frozen sea, and the eating of a crepe, bring hope from the darkness of winter toward the renewal and light of spring.
