Saint Petersburg based, Russian brother duo Denis Semishkin (voice, guitar, bass) and Daniil Semishkin (drums), a.k.a. Castletroy, have dropped an eye-opening video for the shimmering loud track “Светотень” (Light), taken from last year 4-track EP “Искусство спит” (Art is Sleeping), replete of a highly melodic experimental blend of emotional ridden, guitar-laden sound, joining the dots between shoegaze, post-rock and psychedelia sprinkled with dream pop and emo leanings, as contemplative and melancholic, as it is layered and piercing, set in streams of abrasive distortion and mesmeric atmospheric expansions.
Noisy, ringing environmental temperatures unwind scattered off-tempo drum beats, sturdy throbbing bass lines, and scratchy groovy guitar riffs around powerful, emotional male vocalizations and low airy back-ups, releasing high anxious tension into the hazy sway of reverb-heavy six-string turbulence, lit by dazzling freeing sky-high surges.
Visual metaphors draw striking contrasts between shades of grey and thought to build a compelling poem about “Art is Sleeping.”
Unblinking, acute focus penetrates a smoke-filled performance, blurring ambient dimensions of hidden light. Hypnotic drumsticks dance between the lines of parallel planes, shape-shifting identity between split-screen technology and the deceptive time flow of transparent overlays. Lights and shadows alternate intensity to switch color, mood, and wardrobe with a blink of the mind’s eye tearing through unseen walls of resistance with symbolic mysticism.
