WL//WH Video Of The Day: CALAVERX “Acércate”

Video Of The Day Calaverx

Teasing the all ages show at CDMX’s Fuck Off Room on August 30, 2025 where the audience will have an exclusive to new songs that have never been heard before, the veteran Mexican musician, producer, and vocalist Manuel Ruiz, along with Cesar Gonzalez (synthesizers) and Julio Garcia (electric drums), under the Dark Wave/Post Punk moniker Calaverx, drops a cinematic video by Iván Hernández for the new single “Acércate” via fellow independent label We are One Records.

“Acércate” is about a person who, after a long time has passed, struggles between yearning dreamily to be reunited with a lover or pretending that they don’t exist.

Dark, strobing adrenaline-fueled moods are built by urgent, dangerous bouncy bass lines, crisp, steady beats, and dire pulsing warnings of glaring, icy synth riffs sweeping over restless, rapid spoken words, with a rolling tongue rattle, finally slowing down into an exhausted groan.

From day to night, Calaverx performs “Acércate” at Barrio Chino y Parque Masayoshi Ôhira, a Japanese outdoor urban park, in the Ciudad de Mexico, while an Asian-themed Gothic romance syncs with the story of the soundtrack. Aimee Zumarán portrays a stunning red-headed geisha, with thigh-high Goth boots, an elaborate Asian robe, and flawless make-up by Hiroshi Martine, who is swept off her feet by vocalist Manuel Ruiz. Thought-provoking symbols are woven throughout the clip, leading into a startling, dark psychological finale.
