WL//WH Video Of The Day : BODEGA “How Did This Happen!?”

Video Of The Day

Discovered last Sunday and irremediably hooked on the forthcoming debut single, produced by Austin Brown of Parquet Courts, from New York‘s art-rock / ‘anti-consumeristic post-punk’ five-piece Bodega, out soon via the What’s Your Rupture label, a seal of DIY quality.

The band’s irresistible energic and whirlwind live approach and their distinctive ‘New York’ nature of their sound, brought me straight back to the creative and unique mid/late 70’s Bowery Street’s CBGB’s era of bands like Talking Heads and Television, at least what it represented for my own romantic and rich imagination of a very young boy in the pre-internet era.

“How Did This Happen!?” combines punk’s sharp attitude and irresistible pop hooks, the early Modern Lovers’ taut proto-punk anxiety, The Fall’s frenetic energy and The B52’s flamboyant vibes, to create something bracing, fresh and above all inspiring, impossible to resist.

Check the amazing self-made video, ‘a simulacrum of a typical night at our favorite Brooklyn venue, ALPHAVILLE’;  maybe due to my late age, but the fact that I was not the only one consoles me, I initially asked to myself ‘where’s the singer? I just can listen to his voice!’, but just scroll with your mouse over the image and you can move around the room with a total view…damn technology!

Keep up with Bodega :
