Started in 2007, Bella Lune is a Dreampop/Darkwave band & dark alternative DJ duo from Phoenix, AZ , made up of founding member Fuchsia (Guitar, Vocals/Lyrics & Programming) and her partner Hurley (Bass & Guitar) who started the new year with the symbolic video “Perpetuate” to introduce Bella Lune’s just released seventh studio album “Chasing Shadows”, the first since 2019, via Aetheria Music.
“Perpetuate” is a call to end violence through a provocative blur of fantasy and reality, aroused by a sonorously humming and throbbing bass line along steady soft-heart beats, obsessively piercing by atmospheric agonizing guitar strains and desolate flashing echoes, swaying over beautifully tragic vocal cries and breathy spoken word whispers, to evoking a deep sadness and despair at the hands of hate and discrimination.
An insightful anti-violence quote by Boston native, mid-19th century poet, essayist, and philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Peace cannot be achieved through violence, it can only be attained through understanding”, opens a suggestive DIY video to sync with the thought-provoking sentiments of the soundtrack. A reverse strip tease performance by Fuchsia cast in an overexposed purple-tinted spotlight in front of an atomic mushroom cloud backdrop injects fear through translucent atmospheric overlays and backwards flows of motion, drawing the eye toward a now military-clad dancer.
Bella Lune‘s new seventh album, “Chasing Shadows”, is out now, on CD & Digital formats, via the band’s Bandcamp.
