WL//WH Video Of The Day: BELLA ETERNA “Emperor”

WL//WH Video Of The Day  BELLA ETERNA

In 2020 when the Murcia-based, Spanish DJ and music producer Javi Golo Luw aka JG Outsider made an official remix of  “Phantom Chase”, a song by the longstanding Belgian New Wave act The Arch founded in 1986, it ignited a collaborative spark, further fueled by JC Outsider rework of the 1990 track “Ribdancer”, with The Arch‘s singer Gerd Van Geel, that took shape in the Electro-Wave project Bella Eterna.

In anticipation of the October 1, 2024 release of Bella Eterna’s debut album, “Pornographic Shadows”, via French-Spanish independent label Unknown Pleasures Records, an aesthetic video by Gerd Van Geel himself for the opening LP track “Emperor” springs forth.

A rich sizzling dramatic tapestry of dire vibrant sparkling guitar melodies and dimly glowing forlorn synth swells sways and echoes over a murky background of crackling and thumping percussions along with buzzy churning low ends, whilst beautifully tragic emotional vocals ache in intense harmonies of awe and fear.

The DIY video by Gerd Van Geel sets a beautiful mystic against a transformative ocean sunset to sync with the psychological power of the soundtrack. We see a woman adorned in reflective jewels and an ornate headdress who stares with expressionless eyes into a crystal ball. A deep burnt amber hue glistens atop the rippling waters, to illuminate, dimly, the sphere that she slowly spins in her long witch hand. The imaginative mystery ends as her shadowy silhouette walks gracefully through the water with a translucent cape gently tugged by the water below.
