German coldwave / post-punk 3-piece from Halle, Baical , almost an year following their debut 5-track EP “Euphoria” on Black Verb Records / Manic Depression Records, are back with a new 2-track single “War Scene”, once again via Black Verb Records.
After the early, easy and natural comparisons with label owners and fellow countrymen Bleib Modern, their new cover of “I don’t like you’ appears to an ironical answer from a band that are managing to emerge with their own distinctive voice.
With “War Scene” the band seems to be on the right path, partly due to the dark deep vocals, somewhere between romantic and goth, but it’s the highly emotional depth and intensity of the music that is truly impressive. The treated acoustic and sheen soaring guitar chimes, layered in hypnotic swathes of sonic tension, the pulsating melodic bass, the repetitive drums, all stand up on their own.
