Both in terms of style and instrumental are certainly not hidden the muses of the young Liverpool-based Shoegaze/Dream Pop 5-piece Avalyn, “inspired by the 90s wall of sound used by My Bloody Valentine and the melodies of 80s Post-Punk acts such as The Cure”, over the course of three captivating singles, deftly produced by none other than Mark Gardener (of RIDE), varying from the clangorous distortions of the debut to the consistently hazy and shimmering reverb-strewed aesthetic yet gradually more nostalgic and dreamy, to unveil a distinctive somber, melancholic melodic flair, with atmospheric nods to Lush, Slowdive, even The Church or The Bunnymen.
The Merseyside unit, made up of Andy Power (Lead Vocals & Rhythm Guitars), Ben Deegan (Lead Guitars), Grace Woolston (Backing Vocals), Jude Hatton-Holland (Drums), and Charlie Cowburn (Bass), have dropped a suggestive DIY video for their latest single “Distant Days,” a song that ties the isolation and gloom of the winter months with a romantic breakup.
“Distant Days” elicits an intoxicating yet claustrophobic outflows from crystalline glistening guitar melodies, dazzling fluttering leads, sinuous throbbing bass lines, and bouncy drum beats form shivering, fuzzy, atmospheric swarms around high-angst airy vocals, layered with cool celestial back-ups, to carry lovelorn lyrics through the tumultuous sways of life’s trying times.
Immersive, compelling, and uplifting DIY visuals give an inside look into the life of Avalyn using candid outtakes and energetic performance clips. Hip fashion, skewed camera angles, and keen editing skills add an intriguing surreal flair to a night on the town whilst urban flows of nocturnal motion and mesmeric strobing neon lights sync perfectly with the anxious social vibes of the soundtrack.
