Video of the Day Antipole & Paris Alexander
The long-time fruitful close artistic partnership since 2017 between beloved Wave / Post-punk acts Antipole (AKA Karl Morten Dahl) from Trondheim, Norway, and Paris Alexander from Brighton, UK, which culminated, amongst others, with the albums “Northern Flux” (2017) and “Radial Glare” (2019), after taking in the last few years a break to pursue their respective projects, the former the collaboration LP “A Haunted Place” (2021) with Kill Shelter, while the latter his solo debut album “Renaissance” (2021), back into the fold to announce their forthcoming 8-track full-length studio LP, “Crystalline”, via Young & Cold Records. simultaneously with the new single/video, “Perceptions.”
Otherworldly “Perceptions” open by fusing swirling cinematic synth swathes with bouncy chugging low ends, dancing beats, and shimmery obsessive lines of prickly wistful guitar melodies to expand the imagination around feathery breathes of magnetic vocal caresses, drifting, bewitchingly into an aching anticipation of romantic dreams.
Evocative black and white visuals pique introspective curiosity from a surreal urban nightscape to sync perfectly with the brooding, sultry vibes of the soundtrack. A cold wintry mix of snow and fog sets the backdrop for a solo traveler, whose purposeful walk leads the viewer through a maze of symbolic shadows, charming architectures, and hypnotic flows of motion, to unfold timelessly under the shapeshifting glow of a mysterious, full moon.
Be sure to check out the duo performance with Eirene at the next 2023 Wave Gothic Treffen in Leipzig, Germany.
The album, produced by Paris Alexander of Blue Door Studio, is due, in 12 “Vinyl, CD & Digital formats, on May 12, 2023 and can be pre-ordered from Antipole‘s Bandcamp and Young & Cold Records’ Website.
