WL//WH Video Of The Day Ancient Channels
Ancient Channels, the Meanjin/Brisbane based Dreamy Post Punk outfit made of Talia Bond (drums), Cameron Martin (bass), Lloyd Martin (guitars), Bec Martin (vox, guitars), and Kelly Hanlon (vox, guitars, synths), returns with a video for “Black Metals”, the second single from the forthcoming sophomore album “Static Spirit”, via False Peaks Records.
The five-piece twists dreamy dispositions with winding, fuzzy psychedelic progressions and moody dark post-punk grooves.

Inspired by a dream about a plane crash, “Black Metals” tears through hypnotic propulsive rhythms, laying the foundation for a heavy thundering, echoing storm woven by scuzzy, churning, doom-laden riffs and swirling, blistering surges of shivering, wailing distortion around fearful, sliding female vocals, counting down with layered vigour before soaring far away to reveal “it’s time to change your mind.”
The paired visuals begin in a grey-purple haze with a woven dream-catcher hanging precariously in the wind as a plane explodes on the horizon. Then, a lightning storm takes hold and surrounds Ancient Channels as they perform “Black Metals” under an array of transformative editing. All the while, a translucent stream of symbolic imagery brings forth thought-provoking ideas about hope, life, reflection, death, eternity, and rebirth, syncing seamlessly with the soundtrack.
Ancient Channels‘ second studio album, “Static Spirit”, is scheduled to be released later in 2026 on False Peak Records.
