WL//WH Video Of The Day: ABU NEIN “Wound”

Video Of The Day Abu Nein

Enigmatic Malmö-based, Swedish darkwavers ABU NEIN, made of Dennis Lood (Abu Aljahim), Erica Li Lundqvist (Abu Iblis) and Anders Nordensson (Abu Jinn), following the riveting first EP “I Will Rise”, give us a glimpse of their distinctive 80s influenced, goth-tinged, minimal dark electronic sound with the release of the video for the new single “Wound”, taken from the band’s forthcoming debut album “Secular Psalms”, due out on vinyl Friday the 13th of november through Young & Cold Records (Germany) & Rundgång Rekords (Sweden).

Deeply evocative female vocals lost in pain, love, and hardship penetrate the hypnotic and repetitive light hitting tinny beats and ominously deep pulsing bassline, swirling into buzzing auras of electronic zips and eerie icy synth melodies to set forth an atmosphere of danger and mystery, amid the darkness of maternal sacrifice.

Impassioned lyrics express a long-held belief system swept in duty, honour, and pain that sustains the life and death of those around it.

An emotionally draining video, made by Magnus Hedberg & Ida Gyllensten, lit with ceremoniously flickering candles, casts doubt and suspicion over a woman whose vacant stare fills with pain and suffering, as red and blue strobe lights flash alternating time and dimensions over a withdrawn reflection. Cryptic writing on a mirror reveals all is not well when horror strikes her face hidden in shame, while time-lapse transitions float weightlessly in a dance of suspended captivity leaving a deep introspective cry smeared in blood, as a ritual offering to inspire “Abu Nein.”

Keep up with Abu Nein:
