Despite a slew of live shows along the North American West Coast from Seattle, Portland, Washington, to Mexico City, 55 Castles, the Oakland, California-based duo made up of instrumentalist Brando and vocalist Dante, who describe themselves as ‘a movement and expression of Modern Goth and Dark Wave that tries to move the people and rhythm to make the world a better place’, drops a DIY new video for the new single “RR Sigil,” featuring Paris Sadonis.
“RR Sigil” combines unexpected effects, skewed interludes, and dramatic shifts in momentum to build an uncanny yet highly magnetic and emotional aura, where Dante’s signature baritones earnestly deliver esoteric lyrics into a murky and vibrant haunted maze of crisp clattering, palpitating percussions, ominous droning bass tones, and eerie glowing synth shivers, left dancing in the pale moonlight.
In the paired video, 55 Castles performs “RR Sigil” outside in a field under a full moon to sync with the metaphysical aspect of the soundtrack. Dante swings an axe in his hand, and Brando wears a chain metal head dress, while symbolic editing uses red and blue lights, double vision, and suggestive imagery to bring forth the spiritual conflict and duality found in the human condition.
