Track/Video Of The Day SOOTHE
Hailing from the tiny Flemish medieval town of Leuven, Belgian Alternative Shoegazers Soothe started out as a concealed bedroom creative exploration for self-taught teen singer-songwriter Benina, to finally open up to the world in 2022 with the arrival of local musicians Haiko, Bob and Bram.
The four-piece’s debut single “Porcelain,” a song about the pain, fragility, and ultimately the feeling of brokenness that occurs when a person in power blames another for all that is wrong, maneuvers Slowdive tinged, immersive shoegaze shimmers to melt with introspective undertows of indie rock vulnerability bringing forth an intimate emotional depth.
The song stirs up stumbling drums and sinuously humming, resonant basslines, to underpin shimmery sways of guitar strums, peaked by skyrocketing dazzling surges, that bathe in a gauzy haze of reverb-filled distortion and poignant strings, on which glide flowing layers of vibrant airy lush vocals, releasing wistful angst and aloof regret.
The Official Video for “Porcelain,” directed by Benina Hu herself, uses the transformative night lights of the city to create a blurry contemplative realm where busy flows of people in varying forms of thought and emotion, shift perspective and evoke bittersweet feelings of melancholy and joy.
Keep up with Soothe:
