WL//WH Track Of The Day: WAVE DECAY “See The Sun”

Track Of The Day WAVE DECAY

Following last year’s underrated debut album, “Reflections,” the Denver, Colorado four-piece band Wave Decay, made up of Jeff Deakyne (vocals/lead guitar), Marisa Dal Santo (bass), Mason Peters (drums) and David Meyer (organ/percussion), returns with the new single, “See The Sun.”

Through intricate, immersive and iridescent depths of blissful textured shoegaze and sun-bleached psychedelia, grounded by Krautrock rhythmic reiterations, the group explores love, death, and emotional unrest.

Lyrically, the song uses the view of the sun, or lack thereof, to describe different states of mind from bright (positive) to depressed (negative).

Ringing-toned riffs echo and ripple atop one another, over expansive, hazy billowing sheets of reverb-drenched distortion layered with abyssal organ washes, alongside sinuous yet edgy and sonorous humming bass lines and steady hypnotic drums, keeping the simmering intensity high. Concurrently, ghostly, introspective vocals slowly shift vibrancy, clarity, and frame whilst radiating through a loud overflow of heavy droning swells, wavering with conflicting feelings of sadness and hope, loss and acquisition, change and certainty.

Check also for the droning beat-less atmospherics of“Ego Death Interlude,”and the, not less effective, ebbing and flowing fuzz-laden wistfulness of “Air Runs Thin” on the flip.
