Following the debut album, “Ambition,” at the start of the year, Warm Coat, the alternative, shoegazing, jangly, indie duo from South Wales, active since 2021, unveil “Expert,” the first single taken from their forthcoming second full-length, “Fractured Shadows,” via Milestone Records, due for release in May 2026.
An atmospheric, lush and shimmering song that sits comfortably alongside artists like Ride, Teenage Fanclub, Alvvays, Slowdive, and Beach House, about the arrogance, condescension, and bullying behaviour of an expert through a lens of confident power and fear of exposure.
Built around a bittersweet glistening, cycling guitar melody, cloaked in a reverberant ghostly halo, “Expert,” gracefully delves, led by brisk hypnotic drum patterns, into wistful, contemplative realms, smoothly swirling in radiant painterly textures rippled with humming and bubbling synth currents, from which a vibrant yet murky emotional dreaminess stems, soothing and haunting at the same time, engulfing sad, anxious vocals, struggling to withdraw from the know-it-all expert who hides insecurity behind dismissive and dominating confidence.
Warm Coat‘s new single, “Expert,” available on SoundCloud and Bandcamp, will be officially released on all other major streaming platforms on 25th February.
