Inexplicably missed from last week’s playlist, Manchester-based, Sri-Lanka-bred young bedroom pop multi-instrumentalist/singer/songwriter Praveen Somarathne, AKA Warahenege returns after a promising synth-infused, somehow chaotic, yet captivating, debut single “Cosmic Mess”, with an organic and soothing sophomore new tune “For The Moment” brimming with melodic emotionality,
Inspired mainly by suggestions coming from across the pond, Elliott Smith, Grizzly Bear, TV On The Radio, Spoon, The National, Bon Iver among his inspirations, with just Radiohead from his fellow countrymen, through his moving hazy voice, imbued with deep sensitivity, he seems to possess the same penchant for transforming painful and unsettling emotions, as he does to exorcise them, into dreamily blurry wistful sounds and heartfelt lyrical words.
“For The Moment” is laced with poetic lyrics using metaphors to form an inner dialogue about the struggle and discomfort felt when trying to awake from an oppressed existence.
Steady off-tempo hypnotic drum beats stir slowly strummed sad guitar riffs, lit by brittle, glaring synth drips, lilting ceaselessly, sprinkled by gently leavening lines of glistening six-string melodies, gently pierced by quivering layers of reverb-strewn vibrato, achingly caressing drowsy, angsty male vocals to fade, float, and release soft, breathless melancholy into a weightless glide from numb, disoriented longings, through a heart-warming brass flourish interlude, into an organic awakened clarity of peaceful euphoria, ‘I’ll be alright now.’
The hypnotic DIY lyric video splices a slick windshield wiping night drive down a lonely dark highway into a two-sided mirror reflection,to inverse the flow of motion and expose a third dimension.
