After the summer pause, the Northern Irish independent label Tonn Recordings masterminded by Belfast‘s visual artist Mary McIntyre, is back to serve up quality synth-driven music, embracing in its cultivated roster the solo project from Montréal-based minimal synth artist Void Republic, finally on a consistent release streak since last end of 2023’s 2-track “Skies Collapse” EP, we pointed out.
The early foretaste, titled “Stations”, from the forthcoming EP coming on October 10th, combines impulsive Minimal Synth turmoil with striking Cold Wave elegance, swirling and buzzing ceaselessly, punctuated by eerie stop-and-go transformations, on the bouncing feverish tempo of a lashing, snappy drum programming alongside throbbing basslines, against tight judders of obsessively nagging spasmodic synth stabs, with chilly restless vocals cloaked in an electrified ghostly haze.
