WL//WH Track Of The Day: VANDAL MOON “Her Happiness Is Gone”

Track Of The Day VANDAL MOON

Three years since the sixth album “Queen of the Night”, the Santa Cruz-based duo Vandal Moon lure the listeners to “keep music evil” with “Her Happiness is Gone”, the first single lifted from the upcoming album “DIE HAPPY.”

Originally conceived in 2013 as an experimental electronic-psychedelic project, the genre-defying approach of California-based founder, multi-instrumentalist and main songwriter Blake Voss, with the addition of Jeremy Einsiedler (drum machines and synthesizers), since 2018, ignites Velvet Moon to pursue an ever-evolving path through an increasingly dark synth-driven production, incorporating ’80s tinged elements of New Wave, Post-punk, and Synthpop, all wrapped in Gothic allure, creating a distinctive and boundary-pushing sound, both haunting and thought-provoking.

A song about lust, obsession and loving someone too broken to love you back.

The buzzy electro-charged “Her Happiness Is Gone” is a fast-paced, disturbing, darkly romantic track, which insistently and treacherously pulses on a hypnotic thumping drum programming and tightly bouncing, droning basslines, strewed with swirling, eerie synth inflexions, shivering and creeping gloomily across wicked, hoarse, shadowy baritones, and dramatic, doom-laden chorus, to achingly shudder in an obsessive emotional state.
