One of last week most intriguing releases has been certainly the debut 2-track demo from a brand new Swedish band from Stockholm, called Unwashed Masses that plays an exciting brand of gothic deathrock/post-punk with a heavy industrial touch.
Blending classic punk brashness, goth post-punk gloominess and powerful, ominous industrial undercurrents, the intense and powerful “Wasted” is built on extraordinary thick and abrasive industrial guitar riffs and a relentlessly tight and fierce rhythm section, further threatened by Hana’s angry punky vocals, yelling in disgust, drawing out feelings of alienation, anger and non-acceptance for not following mainstream sheep, trapped in the control schemes inposed by society and religion.
Not less effective and compelling is the other track “Grave Dancer” with an increasingly prominent role of the beautiful haunted vocals surrounded by a wall of burning death guitar riffs.
A very promising debut.
