Bay Area based post-punk / shoegaze 4-piece TOPOGRAPHIES, comprised of Gray Tolhurst (Coo Coo Birds), Jérémie Rüest (Lavender Blush), Justin Oronos (Solip) and Lauren Grubb (Minipop) after last year more than promising debut single, started the new one with a 4 live track “Part Time Punks Session”, two masterly executed My Bloody Valentines covers, and two originals, the reverb-soaked intimate slow burner “Cherry Blossom” and the istantly alluring “Open Up”.
Evocative and affecting, “Open Up” is permeated by with heavily effects-laden John McGeoch-esque searing and hypnotic guitar lines woven with post punkish sombre, wailing bass pulses and backed by taut and sturdy backbeats, that relentlessly build in intensity over a whirlwind of wistful emotions embued by mournful, yearning vocals, laced with sorrow and desire, dreaming to touch, feel, kiss an unrequited love.
A dour and enticing post-punk shiver from a band with a huge potential to explore and develop.
