WL//WH Track Of The Day: TLEN “Warning Sign (demo)”

Track Of The Day TLEN / ТЛЕН

We don’t really know much about the Bulgarian five piece band ТЛЕН from Sofia, only that they are comprised of Yana Kostadinova (vocals), Gabriel Yordanov (guitar), Georgi Vachkov (bass), Viktor Valchev (drums) and Joseph Saltiel (synth), as well as the post-punk and darkwave tags, for what they are worth, doesn’t correspond to reality, just like they didn’t for the Cure of the early 90s.

Despite its bouncy catchiness, the group’s first demo single, “Знак за тревога / Warning sign,” is about a sick soul who is unable to get healthy because of denial and anxiety, to charmingly blend captivating, emotional ridden, bright female vocals, effervescent jangling guitars, and moody bass ruminations, striking a sweet balance between freshness and intricacy, lightness and density, while running in a full simplicity of means.

A straightforward yet heady energy unfolds over glistening, vibrant arpeggios layered with an airy, fizzing strummed flow and glowing synth overlays, while a relentless sonorous bassline churns underneath with perky drums, on which wobble piercing, sad angst laden vocals, shifting between fearful cries and urgent racing broods into a blazing and frantic swirling finale.

Keep up with ТЛЕН:
