WL//WH Track Of The Day THE WATERSTRIDERS
Started back in 2015, The WaterStriders is a four-piece Indie Rock/Garage Pop band from Athens, Greece, with a debut full-length LP, titled “My Name is EXPECTATION,” in 2022 under their belt, via local DIY imprint Old Bad Habits Label.
Purveyors of a fuzzy yet melodic guitar driven sound that pulls heavily from the ’80/’90s, US and UK highly influential bands such as The Smiths, Placebo, Lush, Weezer, The Pixies and Smashing Pumpkins, the foursome returns with the upcoming second album, “Anodyne,” once again on Old Bad Habits Label, alongside a renewed rhythm section comprised of Christina Ioannidou (Bass) and George Svarnas (Drums), in addition to the founding members Manos “Immanic” Aretoulakis (Voice, Guitars) and Asterios Stelios Kotoulas (Guitars).

The second excerpt, “Why Sing at all?,” delves into the sense of being drained of all emotions and feeling empty, featuring atmospheric, moodier and evocative, Curesque guitar tones, fused with outbursts of thick, slightly abrasive textures.
The track meanders and swirls through crisp, deeply melancholic guitar riffs and shimmering ripples woven with expansive, loud, distorted edges, fueled by skittering drums, and pulsing bass lines, building an aching intensity and uncomfortable tension around vibrant, wistful male vocals, layered with hopeless falling hums, finding themselves stuck in emotional numbness.
The Official Lyric Video, by Bob Katsionis, builds a trippy pink and blue fluid realm where ink blots swirl with neon flashing lights, swimming pool ripples, and the sad poetic lyrics, syncing seamlessly with the despair of the soundtrack.
Keep up with The WaterStriders:
