Following the release of the single “Blue Sun” in December 2023, whose video we featured later, in the summer of 2024, the Berlin-based Post Punk / New Wave four-piece The Maze Cab, formed in 2020 around the multi-instrumentalist Gernot Pohle of the new wave band The Wars, along with Katharina Lange Reiber (vocals, key, trombone), Ralf Liebchen (bass, programming), and Tilman Berg (drums), return with the new single “The Path We Take”.
Dealing with a person who fears that too much light will blind them, as it affects how they make choices, the song is imbued with a catchy and stirring guitar-driven ’80s UK New Wave flair, augmented with shimmery shoegaze tones, to strike a fine balance between introspection and intensity.

It brilliantly combines shifting and swirling layers of atmospheric, effect-filled guitars with steady off-tempo drums alongside humming, post-punk bass lines, weaving a rich, intricate, sparkling, at times dire, distorted tapestry that obsessively reverberates with wistful emotional depth against vibrant, feathery male/female vocals, radiating and then falling, soaked in angst and gloom.
Surreal and spacey, the electronic-laced “Too Late” (check the visuals at the bottom page) is frosted over in eerie, chilly, Numan-esque synths and 6-string shimmers with dreamy yet vibrant, celestial female vocals, anxious from waiting too long to come down from heaven.
Keep up with The Maze Cab:
