The Depths is the new post-punk endeavour of Athens-based, Thessaloniki-native electronic producer, musician and songwriter Nick Chrysochoos, fresh from dropping his second single, “Under The Lights,” in anticipation of the upcoming debut EP.
With the support of Thodoris Kanelos (bass), Thodoris Tsiakas (drums & percussion) and Alex Naoum (vocals), The Depths delivers an angular, edgy and gripping orthodox post-punk sound, which brings with it a heartfelt and vibrant urgency, balancing a resonant sense of sharp intensity and simmering restraint through driving basslines, combined with obsessive percussion, jagged, pain-filled guitars and an agonizingly detached vocal delivery.
“Under The Lights” is a song about how fear imprisons, misdirects, and kills the flow of life, until the light comes and sets the course straight.
Anchored by the taut trotting urgency of tight, jolting drumming and a harsh, brooding bassline, razor-sharp, wailing guitar stabs layered with dramatic echoing strains and stretches of angsty, icy synths build a heavy, doom-laden cloak hanging over cold, haunted male vocals lost in hopelessness and despair.
