Manchester, UK-based newcomer Electro-Noise trio The Cutter shares a penchant for exploring decaying and romantic urban dark landscapes, implementing a moody and brooding sonic canvas outlined by a mix of Goth-tinged Electronica, Darkwave, and Noise, inserted into an equally atmospheric and dissonant, heady Shoegaze frame.
Pulling the everlasting sonic elements from an influential British lineage such as Joy Division/New Order, The Cure, Bowie, The Cocteau Twins, The Chameleons and the more recent hints from Preoccupations, Bdrmm, and The Smiles, among others, the 3-piece has dropped three singles so far, the latest and catchiest one, titled “Stereotype”, showing an intricate and dynamic, somehow straightforward, songwriting, with increasing intriguing developments in settling into their own sound.
Steadily fueled by a hypnotic, pumping drum machine and urgent wobbling bass lines, cascades of vibrant echoing guitar chords, shivering poignant baritone melodies, and beautiful nebulous washes of fuzzed-out, squalling distortion, with ghostly synth fills, provide a sweeping and piercing complement to restless, distraught deep croons, oozing phony aloofness before turning into urgent, simmering angry obsessions, to explore the manic suspicion and distrust aroused by the thoughts of an unfaithful partner.
Keep up with The Cutter:
