WL//WH Track Of The Day : TEST “Ready To Die”

Track Of The Day Test

Featuring half members of Texan industrial/hardcore/punk quartet Portrayal Of Guilt, fresh from their acclaimed debut “Let The Pain Be Your Guide”, Austin-based TEST are just dropped their sophomore 2-tracker “II”, cassette/digital, via Oakland’s independent label Smoking Room Records, following last year promising self produced 3-track ‘demo’ cassette.

While the opening “Bellicose‘ is a powerful and abrasive fuzzy post-punk sliver, is “Ready To Die” that channels, in an intriguing way, all the main band’s lingering brooding and gloomy industrial / post-punk / darkwave influences.

Relentless, resonant, and ominously pulsing arpeggiated bass lines backed by icy, hypnotic mechanical beats, lay the dark hidden claustrophobic cave where emerging circumspect, monochromatic deep rooted whispers, echoed by searing, lysergic guitar melodies, harnesses intense and paranoic feelings of distrust, fear and anxiety.

Running, out of breath, and hiding from others, a man, wrapped in a suspicious and obsessive illusional state of mind, brings fantasies awake and dreams alive in a ‘ready to die’ world.
